Pinacoteca Civica "Bruno Molajoli" The art gallery houses an important collection of paintings
from local artists of the 14th. and 15th centuries known as the Fabriano school for their originality and intensity . Until
1862 the Galleria Communale di Fabriano ,in the Town Hall, had collected
an interesting selection of local works of art ( unfortunately non by
their most famous artist Gentile da Fabriano ). In 1912 these works were
transferred to Palazzo Vescovile to a room specialising in the late Gothic
before being finally moved in1991 together with a fine collection
of Flemish tapestries to the
restored ‘ex Ospedale di Santa Maria del Buon Gesù ‘. The exhibition
has been enriched with a fine
collection of Flemish tapestries from
16th.and17th.centuries taken from the Cathedral Chapter as well
as earlier works of art from 14th.century Fabrianese artists. The ‘ex Ospedale di Santa Maria Gesù’ forms part
of a large architectural complex characterised
by an elegant external portico with five lateral arches and a beautiful
internal cloister built in 1456 to connect three major hospitals. The art
gallery is dedicated to Bruno Molajoli
a well-known art historian and local Fabrianese who became Director
General of Fine Arts during the 70’s. The art works are in a comprehensive and educational
display. The rooms are in chronological order based on each artistic
movement.
