Fabriano

 
 

Fabriano is situated in a mountain basin rising above the Giano river a tributary of the Esino river. The city’s antique origins rest in virtue of its actual geographical position held a fundamental role in the cultural and historical evolution of the Apennine territory in the Marche and Umbria Regions. In Roman times the vocabulary Fabriano emerged that evoked “an adjective of Roman gentility (Fabertus) indicating the possessor of a ‘fundus’ or ‘rus’ whereby mediaeval castles arose” (Bruno Molajoli).
