Serra San Quirico

Serra San Quirico, a village built in a strategic position that stands like a guard in front of the gorge called Gola della Rossa. Perched right up on its hill, the town recalls the forms of a ship and it has been called “a city of stone on a rocky coast”. In yet another perfectly preserved fourteenth-century town centre, you can find the typical “Copertelle (covered passageways along the town walls), an original xample of defensive fortifications, the church of S. Lucia and, lower down on the other side of the Esino, the Abbey of S. Elena that was founded in the early 11th century by St. Romualdo.
