Massignano is located on the hilly countryside that overlooks the Adriatic Coast. Roberta Lazzarini, writer and journalist, was born in Ascoli Piceno. She was the first to fall in love with the place. Together with her family she decided to make it a perfect frame for her guests. La Country House Chiaraluce is set in the landscape and overlooks it in the same time. The panorama from the yard, where lunch is served in summer, is stunning. An artificial pond is just 300m off. Fishing lovers can have some fun. A secret spot enriches the place. A quiet paradise, framed by fig trees, palm trees and oak trees hides a marvellous swimming pool and an outside gym. The place has been thought for those who want to take care of their fitness even when on holiday. The house is provided with 6 bedrooms. The predominant colour of the walls is light blue tending to blue. The furniture is unpretentious but refined.

Chiaraluce boasts the perfect atmosphere for a quiet stay but also a wide choice of activities. Walks in the countryside, horse rides (riding school nearby) or bike (provided by the owners) trips are among the activities that can be performed.

The sea is just 4 km off. Monti Sibillini (Natural Park) are not very far. Those who prefer alleys to paths can have a drive to Massignano, Campofilone.

There churches, historic palaces and precious masterpieces such as Crivelli polyptyc (Montefiore dell’Aso) won’t disappoint you.

Chiaraluce often organizes meetings with writers, artists and musical evenings to be enjoyed in the cosy atmosphere of the place.

Roberta, who speaks English, French and Spanish organizes full immersion language courses and funny courses to learn how to make Vincisgrassi (so deliciously calorific!) and Olive all’Ascolana.

Chiaraluce Restaurant is well known for its traditional cuisine often sided by tasteful dishes made up on the spot (but served only after the approval of Lalla!)

Roberta follows the same inspiration she has in writing when she is cooking.

She lets fantasy create new combinations of ingredients to find delightful flavours. Far away countries are evoked by some of her dishes.

One of her inventions is a Mango and raisin chutney surrounded by thin slices of pecorino cheese. The flower shaped composition is delightful.

The pecorino cheese and the honey garlic sauce melt in the mouth in a triumph of the Indian cuisine.

Maltagliati alle noci e formaggi teneri, Saggezza di Cordelle, Filetti di pollo al sesamo e curry, Agnello pre salè allo zenzero deserve having a go.

The pastries and cakes are all home made. Ricoffe (a tasteful version of Tiramisù with ricotta cheese) is one of the most appreciated sweets together with Barchette alla Crema con frutti di bosco (custard boat-shaped pastry with wood-berries) and Mousse alla ciliegia (cherry mousse) usually served in summer for its lightness.

Roberta and her staff have always a surprise in store… “have a look at the bedrooms upstairs” Roberta told me the first time I went there… “I’ll make a strawberry and bacon risotto in the meantime”…
