The town, situated in the Macerata province has a population of 7,066. History, art and natural beauty make Montecosaro a place of great interest. Located in a scenic location, at an altitude of 252m, the village is particularly known for its architectural jewel: the church of Santa Maria a Piè di Chienti, one of the most interesting monuments of the region.
The hills north of the territory plunge into a narrow valley, that of the river Asola and mark the border with Potenza Picena and Montelupone, outlining the other narrow, northern side of the "rectangle".
