Paradise Possible’s Itineraries
The suitcase of dreams
Antique hunting in Le Marche
Feast your eyes on shelves laden with different objects, looking for something that speaks to you, representing love for the place in which you live. From ceramic plates to liberty lamps and wooden ornaments, from furniture dating from the 18th Century to contemporary pieces, here we suggest a few pit stops that’ll lead you to finding objects that all have their own story to tell.
Not to be missed
Ostra. Towering 193 metres high, Ostra is a small town that never fails to fascinate with its archeological remains (found in the site Le Muracce), its stately houses, historical theatre and traditional arts and crafts. Nearby you’ll find Ripe, the ‘Paese dei mestieri’ (town of mysteries). This is the best place to start your journey. Here you’ll find the heart of Ripe’s traditional artisanal craftwork- with iron, and wood workshops, amongst others.

Senigallia. If you walk down towards the sea you will reach Senigallia, an elegant little town facing onto the ‘spiaggia di velluto’ (the velvet beach) so-called for its extremely fine sand. Senigallia has a lively, slightly ‘retro’ spirit which is evident all year round: in winter there’s no shortage of events, plays, restaurants and bars, in springtime the seafront and the atmospheric Rotonda pays tribute to the belle époque, or the more recent sixties, and in July thousands of fans turn up for the Summer Jamboree, the best rock festival in the world.

Ancona: A city waiting to be discovered. Many make the mistake of limiting themselves to a walk along the Corso, ignoring the dense network of narrow streets that unravel from the historical centre where you’ll find shops perfect for those who want to find a souvenir from an age gone by. When hopping from one shop to another, don’t forget to stop at the Passetto to marvel at the sea view, at the Duomo di San Ciriaco for a romantic view of the Port (especially at dusk) as well as the art museum, the Pinacoteca comunale.

Antiques Markets: If you like to rifle through market stalls, take a note that the antiques market takes place in Ancona every third Sunday of the month in Via degli Archi (in front of the Mole Vanvitelliana) and in Recanati every first Sunday of the month in the historical centre. Happy treasure hunting!
