       The
      Orange Flags
      The
Italian Touring Club has started to award orange flags in the
Marche inland of late. Such an acknowledgment (also approved by the World
Organization for Tourism) has been useful as a statement of the tourist
and environmental qualities of the Marche region.

      The
cooperation between the local council of tourism and the TCI has made this
possible. Since 2002 in fact the TCI examines the qualities of towns of
the Marche inland. The target is to encourage the development of tourism
in an area that has lately seen the number of visitors increasing sensibly.
The Orange Flag is awarded only to those towns that satisfy the following
requirements: exploiting of the cultural heritage, environmental safeguard,
hospitability, access to the resources, quality of tourist facilities, of
restaurants and of local delicacies. TCI through this certification offer
visitors a warranty of quality and to the towns a precious means for
increasing their value. Thanks to this initiative it is now possible to
trace a route of high quality tourist destinations. Fourteen Orange Flags
have been awarded throughout le Marche in 2005. They are hoisted in fact
in the historic centres of Gradara, Mercatello
      sul Metauro, Mondavio
and San Leo in the Pesaro district.
They have also reached the imposing walls of Corinaldo,
      the extraordinary nature around Genga
and the cosy beauty of Ostra
in the Ancona district. The picturesque centres of Montelupone,
      Urbisaglia and Sarnano
in the area around Macerata have received the prestigious certification as
well. Visitors are also warranted an high quality stay in Monterubbiano, Ripatransone,
      Acquaviva Picena and San
Ginesio. Orange Flags are not only a warrant of quality,
but also a stimulus for the towns that have gained it to develop their
qualities further still preserving their identity. The towns that have
been rejected are stimulated to improve the quality of their territory and
of all tourist facilities and to preserve without further ado the
traditions and typical delicacies. Meeting the visitors need will means
also meeting the requirements for the Orange Flag award.

      The
Marche inland is fervently working to offer high quality facilities for
visitors and to keep the precious recognition: it is not a wonder that
more and more towns’ names lengthen the list of the Marche Orange Flags.
