medieval old quarter of Montefelcino, situated on a hill over the valley
of the river Metauro, in the ancient times had been a point of controversy
between the near towns Fano and Fossombrone. It lasted till the latter,
under the dominion of the Malatesta, succeeded in uniting it with its own
territory, successively incorporated to the Dukedom of Urbino.
