Paradise Possible and a ‘possible’ taste of its properties

If you search for the word possibility in the dictionary (I found mine in Devoto-Oli), you will find the following definitions:

1. Something that refers to the area of abstract or concrete supposition.

2. Potential, faculty, condition or opportunity relating to the achievement of a goal.

3. A future prospect or potential (often plural).

Let’s try to check then if Paradise Possible, which has laid its foundations upon the word possibility, suitably interprets these three semantic camps:

1. At some point or other everyone hates their own life and wants to be somewhere that they can build a new one by choosing its rhythm and principal ingredients. Many people don’t detest their lives but nevertheless they’d like a radical change in their prospects, made up of fresh stimulus and new knowledge. Only some people follow through with these desires. It will be down to ties that are difficult to distance oneself from, even if they’re only geographical; it will be because of a fear of simply not knowing; or it will be due to a kind of inertia that grips you when you understand that a dream is easier to realise than you think and that all it takes is a little courage, but in the end everything gets bogged down in the mire of ‘could have been but wasn’t’. There are the dreamers though, like Maggie or Jane and Ian, who had the courage and are now happy. The instrument through which their courage materialised into action, through which the ‘abstract suggestion’ became a ‘concrete’ one, is in fact, Paradise Possible.

2. Chagall said that we never transfer onto paper what we see, but rather what we already possess inside ourselves. The principle of Paradise Possible is similar to the painter’s idea: your dreams can come true because you already have what it takes: passions. Paradise Possible invites you to follow them and give them concrete shape, because realising your dreams is possible.

3. As for future prospects, the best thing is to offer you a taste of some of the small, potential paradises spread throughout Le Marche, houses which in your hands could for you become the place ‘where love resides’:

Complesso Collestefano, Castelraimondo. Situated upon one of the most beautiful hills in the Verdicchio di Matelica area, it was once the holiday residence of clergymen. It’s made up of three houses that measure 1,000 m2 in total (the main structures are built of stone and come with fully equipped cellars), and there’s also the opportunity to acquire the complex in its entirety. One ‘ecological house’ is immediately available to be lived in. As well as the private house, the structure is also used as a health centre, a training centre and an organic farm shop.

Casale Fonte Fresca, Vallemontagnana. Immersed in greenery, it looks out onto a mountain view that changes with the seasons and is lit up by the sunset that eclipses it every evening. Recently renovated, it’s exclusive and very elegant as well as being accessible. The interior of the farmhouse has been set up as a successful B&B, which with an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity is the perfect place for art classes, yoga workshops and recitals.

Old Mill Pam, Camerino. Being close to the old university city of Camerino means that location possesses a fortunate combination of rural and urban life. The house itself is particularly fascinating because it’s an old mill that has been partially renovated. The building is used as a country home, but has the capabilities to be turned into accommodation to welcome tourists in search of serenity, especially considering the isolated position that distinguishes the rural houses in the Camerino area.

Villa Sibillina, Pievetorina. The ideal place for mountain lovers given its closeness to Visso, the site of the Sibillini Mountains National Park which is where the house takes its name from. This old palace, which lies in the historic centre of Pievetorina, has been completely renovated with all the modern comforts, defining it as a residence for all seasons. It has a beautiful garden and because of the constant flow of tourists in the Sibillini region it’s used as a successful B&B.

During your stay in Le Marche (perhaps with the Amore or Armonia Itineraries) - which can be booked with a 10% discount on the accommodation through our website or via the email address travel@paradisepossible.com - the Paradise Possible team will be at your disposal, having visited the many paradisial hideaways that the greenery of our region guards as hidden pearls.

What do you think? Are we right to have made the word ‘possibility’ our flagship word?
Casale Fonte Fresca – Vallemontagnana: a farmhouse set in the surroundings of the historic Fabriano Paper Mill

Whilst one may live within a building, it’s also possible for a building to live within nature. In this case, Casale Fonte Fresca is a continuation of the landscape, a real sanctuary for man set against the beauty of the horizon. This rugged, yet inviting landscape has an ancient vigour that recalls the legends of Mediterranean civilisation. The house takes on its character and softens its outlines. Stone set on stone, rock set on rock. Here are the elements that are the very fabric of the building: the weaving of surfaces that become integrated with colours and reflections of light, diffused amongst the harsh protruding rocks. It’s situated in the Vallemontagnana region, in a spectacular location within the Natural Park of Gola della Rossa e di Frasassi.

The house sits on top of a Vallemontagnana hill and looks out over Fabriano, the City of Paper, in the central Italian region, Le Marche, with a view of the mountains and the enchanting valley. Casale Fonte Fresca is an old rural farmhouse made entirely of stone, which has been recently salvaged and restored to create a wonderful holiday home to fulfil your dreams. It measures approx. 427 m2 and is spread across four floors with a basement of approx. 45 m2 that is used as a storehouse; a residential ground floor of approx. 146 m2; a residential first floor of approx. 145 m2 and an attic on the second floor, which is approx. 31 m2.

Outside the farmhouse is a wooden porch of approx. 44 m2 and a panoramic terrace that is approx. 46 m2. The ground floor comprises a kitchen, dining room, reception room, living room and a storeroom. The first floor comprises four bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a central hall and a storeroom. The second floor, which is in the style of an attic, consists of a bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and several storerooms. In the annexed storehouse of approx. 46 m2, which is situated below the panoramic terrace of approx. 46 m2, it’s possible to create a private spa with a covered swimming pool that could be used all year round. The surrounding land has fruit trees and an olive grove that extends to over 500 m2.

It’s an ideal base for a holiday home from which to embark on beautiful country walks or bike rides, to take a break with some yoga or simply to live in whilst relaxing and regenerating with the opportunity to explore the historic villages and the magical Caves of Frasassi.

Casale Fonte Fresca is an incredible place. The mountains are continually transforming all year round, from shades of blue to green, with the magical mist - honey coloured, gold, grey and silver - and the sun high overhead, which at times conceals itself. In springtime the air is fresh and bright whilst autumn offers a range of softer hues. During summer the poppies sway in the breeze and the golden eagle soars high overhead in magnificent isolation. At dusk the fireflies dance amongst the olive grove and later on the song of the nightingales carries through the air. In the darkness of the twilight hours lights from the ancient walled city of Fabriano shine brightly.

Fabriano was native city of Gentile da Fabriano, a 14th century artist. In Fabriano it’s possible to visit to the ancient site that is home to the Museum of Paper, with its exhibitions and historic recollection of the invention of paper production. In Fabriano recently took place Poiesis, an important festival which promotes Italian Beauty and Culture.

The protagonists of our story must have had this effect on their neighbors when, ten years ago, they decided to reinvent their life in Italy, in Le Marche.

Jane and Ian come from none other than New Zealand and are a lovely couple, who seem to stand in perfect harmony, giving up something of themselves to make space for the other. Prior to being the welcoming owners of the Cantinone B&B where they live, they were both business analysts who met at work thirty years ago. That’s right, business analysts, never had it crossed their minds to become hoteliers, they worked in banking and the transport industry. If you have a look at the definition of business analyst on Wikipedia, you’ll see that there could be nothing further from the role of welcoming people into their home. Yet they do so with enthusiasm and with a wonderful sense of possibility. They lived in London for twenty years, where they went about their day to day business, then suddenly decided it was time for a change and bought what at the time was a huge crumbling ruin, without ceilings or floors.

Prior to arriving in our paradise possible, like Maggie, Ian and Jane had considered Tuscany and Umbria, whose fame at the time far outweighed that of our region. Fortunately, a wise estate agent recommended Le Marche to them, citing specific reasons that two business analysts could hardly ignore (and one that remain entirely valid today):

- Le Marche is convenient

- Le Marche isn’t spoilt by tourism

- Le Marche is the perfect place to open a business

Of course in reality there are many more reasons to choose Le Marche over Tuscany and Umbria and it was something that Jane and Ian sensed immediately. While Jane proved to be one who learns quickly, serving us an authentic Italian coffee, she told us that they felt instantly welcomed, and that after twenty years in London, they felt like they were back home in New Zealand. All around them were new hills waiting to be discovered, their gaze following the curves of the landscape, without interruption by the ugly, concrete buildings which have been allowed to spoil many towns. And then of course there were the people: Le Marche had the advantage of not being overcrowded, bringing them in closer contact with the locals who took time for a chat, were generous and friendly. There was no distance between people, just like in New Zealand. So Jane and Ian have had no trouble making friends.

It took a while to find Il Cantinone, being good business analysts, there was a certain criteria to be met. They knew what they wanted and as luck would have it, they found a way to achieve it: they came across Possible Paradise on the internet and despite having been in touch with other agencies, viewed only houses suggested by our editor, Grazia. "We were very lucky to meet her, Paradise Possible had the type of houses we were looking for!" they told us. Sometimes things are predestined to happen. Both Grazia and Jane talk about their first meeting as if it were the beginning of an exciting novel or film. Grazia was sitting, waiting on the entrance steps of an old ruin, when Ian’s car arrived and Jane got out enthusiastically, struck by the vision of Cantinone: "It was like a promise, I immediately felt that house had the possibilities to lead us to what we wanted to build ", Jane told us, illuminated by the same bright smile that Grazia recalls from that day.

The pathway to their new life had begun and Jane started to understand the secret to enjoying their time here: by getting to know the area, embracing its characteristics, its treasures and mysteries. It’s no coincidence that the next step, Jane describes with a certain pride: the couple, having returned to London, invited our company director, Giuliano to dinner, and to accompany the final details of the agreement, decided to serve him a plateful of bruschetta! The meeting with Giuliano, with the simple yet delicious food, representing customs and sharing, confirmed to them both that they had made the right choice. With the help of a local surveyor they immediately planned out all the work: the original structure of Il Cantinone was as sound as their dream. It took a year and a half to complete the works.

At the beginning it was just intended as a holiday home, the plan to retire to Le Marche and open a B & B was still far away, a mere seed planted but one that hasn’t yet seen the light of day. However life decides the timing of our actions leaving it for us to pursue the opportunities. In fact, some time later, Ian had a minor health problem that forced him to stop working. The couple might easily have lost heart and reconsidered the idea of having a second home so far away, with still such a lot of restoration works to do ... and yet, still with a smile on their face and as ever ready to meet the challenge, they looked into each others eyes and thought: "We have a lovely house in Italy, why don’t we move sooner?". And so they changed their lives, with the ease that comes with making the right decision.

You should know that Jane has an endless collection of elephants, kept in glass cases that Ian built for her: there are all types and origins. We like to think that the most beautiful of the elephants is their immense house, which was abandoned and found by Jane and Ian, and is the most powerful symbol, because it’s not just any place but a place where dreams are realised: their paradise possible.

The Paradise Trotter

Real Lives – Maggie's dream

Where I come from, there’s a popular folk tale about an old man, who came up against many hardships in life, and in a bid to reduce the gravity of the situation would use an expression as concise as it was significant: "It’s neither good nor bad." According to the moral of the story, nothing is ever completely negative, all things give us a source of strength for the future. You just need a little courage and optimism.

The story of Maggie Brew, fashion and TV hair stylist, amongst the most valued and in demand in London in the late 90s, is an example of this extraordinary foresight. She came to Italy fifteen years ago for a summer holiday in the renowned Tuscan countryside and was immediate struck with the feeling that her soul was slowly nearing, in time and space, its 'perfect spot', like a dowser gradually approaching the miraculous water source.

It was only a matter of time. Five years later, no doubt while she was busy combing the hair of one of the many Vogue models who have passed under her scissors, a customer who knew her well, gave her a copy "of The Guardian or The Daily Telegraph, I can't remember ", in which was an interesting article about a Brand called Paradise Possible, who were promoting an unknown region of Italy called Le Marche. She could immediately see from the pictures what a beautiful place it was, untouched and, like all unknown and surprising places, full of possibilities.

Despite her slender and elegant appearance, Maggie, I can assure you, doesn’t have any heirs and graces. For years she bounced from TV studio to TV studio, from one photo shoot to another, and she did so tirelessly and without complaint, all the while aware that this wasn’t the life for her. Fate was reaching out to her, why should she let indecision hold her back? In fact it was Maggie who told me: "Everybody must do what they feel. We always have to take risks, for our own happiness. "

So, armed with the honest courage that shines in her deep blue eyes, she asked her son (who, by the way is now a teacher in China: the spirit of adventure runs in the family) to have a look at the Paradise Possible website and the properties listed for sale so that she could see if there was anything that might be suitable for her. As fate would have it, her home was already waiting for her, it just needed to be discovered: among the various images of ruins, Maggie fell in love with an old house, its roof tumbling in on it, perched on a slope overlooking the endless valley and surrounded by silent nature, the house attracted her "like a magnet." With that irrational certainty that sometimes happens to us, ten years ago Maggie realised immediately that this was her home and always had been. She raced to Italy, rented a house for two weeks at Lake Trasimeno (it just goes to show how little known Le Marche was at that time), and hurried to 'get acquainted' with her future home. Our Editor, Grazia Grazie, suggested other homes to her, but there was nothing to be done, the cottage at Vallemontagnana was the only one for her. She bought it without a thought, investing her savings to reinvent her life. For nine years, every month for two days she went to Fabriano to see her dream being realized, brick by brick. It took patience and above all hope. Of course it wasn’t without days of despair: the renovation of a house which was bigger than she’d imagined became more and more expensive every day, andon several occasions she had to ask herself "What am I doing?".

One afternoon, with her purse empty and having already sold her home in London, working 6 days a week, 20 hours a day, and for three years, not having anywhere else to sleep but the floor of her shop, she went for a walk on the mountain above the cottage. Arriving at the summit, she sat down and closed her eyes, utterly despondent and about to give it all up, then it happened, just a few meters away, a mighty bald eagle, with its magnificent wings spread, protecting its offspring, was staring at her. The eagle and its brood took flight and began to circle above her. Maggie, at first frightened, then felt that this was a sign, urging her to stay strong. And so, says Maggie, every time she had a moment of uncertainty, the pair of eagles that inhabit the skies above Vallemontagnana returned to see her "like a force pushing me."

Today, Maggie and her black cat Delilah, can finally call themselves the happy owners of a house that seems to look out not only on the beautiful mountain sunsets but towards the future. Maggie is also convinced that the mountain on which the house stands, conceals immense caves (as there are throughout the area, such as the Grotte di Frasassi) emitting positive energy. She told me that those who spend their holidays at the property, which for the past year and a half has been a B&B, arrive tired and tense but wake up the next day thoroughly rejuvenated. Even in winter and particularly during the holidays, when she feels a little nostalgic for friends and family ("not for London!") and wonders whether she made the right choice, it only takes a minute for her to look around and her optimism is immediately restored. Optimism in an environment that suits her and one in which she recognizes and recalls the days of the purchase of that 'magnetic' ruin as being "The Happiest Day of Her Life."

Tenuta Collestefano
"...the most beautiful hill in the area"

Collestefano is a historic residence lying in the Potenza River valley in Le Marche Region. Situated on a hill, the residence lies in a landscape of gently rolling hills and is flanked by the mountainous slopes of the Apennine and Sibillini ranges.

By 1246 Collestefano was already well known as part of a medieval defence system. Razed to the ground by the lords of Varano di Camerino, it was rebuilt in 1300 as a small parish church with buildings for a religious order and in 1700 it became a country manor. It has been in possession of the same family since the 1930.

The residence is situated centrally with easy access to main roads. The towns of Camerino, San Severino Marche and Matelica are all located in the immediate vicinity (within a 10 km radius).
The international airport and the harbour town of Ancona are only a one-hour drive away; The Adriatic Sea and Porto Recanati 45 minutes. Inland, Assisi can be reached in one hour, Perugia in an hour and a half, and Rome and Bologna in three.
Our hill (430m), from which a unique panorama of the surrounding countryside can be enjoyed, rises in the middle of the Castelraimondo (MC) district.

Collestefano is generally considered to be "the most beautiful hill in the area".
Sunlit throughout the day, cooling breezes in summer, a mild, healthy climate, quiet and off the beaten track, Collestefano is nevertheless just 2 km away from the village center. The 16-hectare (39,536861acres) hill with its three houses presents a unified picture.

There is a 500 m² (5.381sf) manor house (cellar, stone wine press, deep well and water reservoir, storerooms, garage, large central kitchen, 8 variously sized rooms), a 400 (4.305 sf) m² farm house with 5 rooms on the ground floor, one of which is a cellar; 6 rooms on the first floor and a separate 64m² (688 sf) building with 2 bedrooms, living room, bathroom and kitchen. Whilst the manor house and farm house are in need of renovation, the latter, smaller building was newly built in 2008.

All the fields belonging to the property are located in the DOC (seal of quality) Verdicchio di Matelica cultivation area. They are characterised by deciduous woods, olive groves, orchards and fields of cereals. The unique position of the property – there are no urban settlements in the immediate vicinity – is ideal for many kinds of leisure activities: relaxation and wellness, hiking, horse riding, country walks, nature observation and ‘farmhouse holidays’. Besides this, the historic cellar and the DOC location of the estate are the best prerequisites for profitable viniculture.

The Paradise Possible Team

From the relatively narrow coastal plains the land rises sharply to the peaks of the Apennines that form a natural boundary with Umbria and Tuscany to the west. While the coastal plains are more densely populated, the beautiful inland countryside is sparsely inhabited. The total population is around 1.5 million with an average density of less than 150 inhabitants per square kilometre; in other words peace and quiet assured. The region covers just under 10,000 square kilometres. For centuries Le Marche has existed, jealously guarding its hidden treasures, but remaining unknown to the world. Its unique landscapes, and the kindness of its inhabitants, are a surprise to anybody venturing into this land on a voyage of discovery.

TVUK “Fantasy Homes by the sea”www.splashmediatv.co.uk

This dreamy coastal seaside series follows buyers on their journey to buy properties with a sea view in the UK and overseases, and explores the coastal areas where they want to puchase their dream property.
Presented by Jenni Falconer, each programme features one aspirational destination from the stunning coastlines of Le Marche, Sardinia, Marocco and Portugal to the beautiful closer to home in Devon e Chichester.
http://www.splashmediatv.co.uk

From the 23rd to the 28th of February, the English TV Splash Media UK with the format “Fantasy Life by the sea” made a video in the area stretching from Porto San Giorgio to Pedaso, telling the story of a young English couple, Samantha and Roberto.
